KICKDOWN LEVERS

1963-1968 Small Block C4 Conversion Lever

This lever is used along with the 69 302 C-4 kickdown rod to convert pre-1969 small block Ford cars over to a kickdown rod if they were built with the original bellcrank/cable arrangement that is no longer available and nearly impossible to find. Some throttle linkage modifications may be necessary in order to do this conversion and the carb must have the kickdown lever installed. This can be obtained from the carburetor manufacturer.

This automatic transmission kickdown lever fits on early C-6 transmission years 1966-1973. It has a reverse offset on the connecting pin part of the lever for clearance from linkages/exhaust headers that may be desirable for any C-6 application, car or truck, needing that clearance. (inward towards transmission) The pin is placed at a 9:30 clock position as are all C-6 levers of this type for connecting the kickdown rod. it’s made of cold rolled steel and painted semi-gloss black for corrosion protection.

These levers are reproduced exactly as the OEM levers were made except for the logo and the engineering part # stamping. They are marked according to their location on the transmission, ie, 1-2, 3-4 and rev. They are laser cut from cold rolled steel so all the edges and hole edges are case hardened by default lending to longer life. The oilite bronze bushings allow easy replacement of them when they are worn and need replacement plus it saves the shift rod ends from becoming worn and sloppy fitting. Sold as a set along with a bushing for each.

These levers are reproduced exactly as the OEM levers were made except for the logo. .  They are laser cut from cold rolled steel so all the edges and hole edges are case hardened by default lending to longer life. These shift tabs come with grade 95A urethane bushings already installed, one step harder than the OEM or replacement bushings available today. They are billet machined from solid urethane rod by the seller/craftsman.  Each bushing is coated on the ID with a thermoplastic lubricant for easier shift rod installation into the bushing. This is the very best quality bushing available anywhere. It is machined from polyurethane rod stock with a durometer rating of 95A. All other bushings available are cast and as such cannot obtain anywhere near the hardness rating of the machined bushing and will not last long because they are so soft. In most cases, the rating is less than 80A durometer. Harder material = longer life.

FITECH Throttle/Kickdown Cable Bracket

This bracket is designed for a dual throttle cable/kickdown cable that has two, 5/16" (8mm) end connection holes. The bracket was designed to fit up Lokar cables or similar for both the throttle and the transmission kickdown. They are  made to accommodate a Fitech EFI unit mounted on a manifold whose rear bolt center distance is 5.125"+/-.125". It utilizes a drop center cross bar to clear the sensors that protrude out of the back of the EFI unit.  It's made from 14 ga steel and primed and painted with Eastwood's Black Zinc Phosphate coating.  

KICKDOWN RODS

1963-1968 Ford Small Block, C4 Transmission Kickdown Conversion Kit for All Small Block V8s 2 or 4 Barrel Carbs

This kit is used to convert pre-1969 small block Ford cars over to a kickdown rod if they were built with the original bellcrank/cable arrangement that is no longer available and nearly impossible to find.

On 65-67 Mustangs and Cougars, if the original throttle linkage is still in place, a different rod is needed due to interference issues. Some throttle linkage modifications/changes may be necessary in order to do this conversion. This change could be to install a cable throttle to replace the stock, direct rod linkage.

The carburetor must also have the kickdown lever installed on it. If you don't have that, you must get one from the carb manufacturer. The kit comes with the specially modified lever, the stainless steel kickdown rod and two "E" clips to retain the lever to the rod and to the carburetor kickdown lever. An adjustment procedure is also provided. As with all my rods, the bushings are permanently installed like the OEM's excepting the plastic material used for the bushings is superior to the nylon used by the OEM. Ours are made of Delrin.

This kickdown rod conversion kit is for a 65-68 Ford Mustang, or any Ford automobile with a 352, 390 or 428 engine and a Cruisomatic or C-6 automatic transmission that does not already have a kickdown rod setup.

The kit replaces thebellcrank/short cable setup whose parts in part or total are impossible to find in good condition. The carburetor must have the kickdown lever installed.  If you don't have the lever, you must get one from the carburetor manufacturer and install it. 2 OR 4 BARREL CARB.

PLEASE NOTE WHICH CARBURETOR OPTION YOU WANT WHEN ORDERING.

If you have a high rise intake manifold or a carb spacer thicker than 1/4", the rod must be made custom for which there is an additional $15 surcharge.

The provided transmission kickdown lever will replace the stock transmission kickdown lever (that should be pointing upwards) with one that points towards the 9 o'clock position, allowing connection of the kickdown rod for a PUSH direction. Stock Ford cable kickdowns are designed for a PULL direction only.

The kit includes the kickdown rod, the transmission kickdown lever for the C-6 transmission and the "E" clips to retain the kickdownrod to the carb and transmission levers.

This setup is especially desireable for those who wish to convert to an AOD transmission but want to be rid of the complexities and unreliable nature of the cable version setups.

This rod and all of its parts are made of stainless steel and will remain elegant looking its entire life...It will not rust.

Delrin bushings, both at the carb/CFI unit end and at the trunion pivot, insure smooth and positive operation and are far superior in function/design to the spongy, snap in bushings of the stock OEM design that deteriorate and fall apart and can cause transmission failure due to transmission pressure NOT being held properly in adjustment by the TV rod/cable.

This sale is for a NEW REPRODUCTION transmission kickdown rod for a 83-94 Ford F-250,  F-350 pickup truck or Bronco with a 6.9L OR 7.3L IDI DIESEL ENGINE ONLY and a C-6 transmission.

It is made of stainless steel so will not rust. One tough kickdown rod! We will ship it wrapped in bubble wrap and then entirely wrapped with shrink wrap due to its size AND to keep shipping weight down.

Reproduced from an NOS rod as a template so it IS correct for the application stated. This rod can only be used with a C-6 transmission. NOS part # is  E3TZ-7A187-C.  The 6.9L engine was used from '83-'86 at which time the engine was upgraded to the 7.3L and that was used thru 1994 year model.

The end bushings are permanently installed and are better than the OEM bushings as they are made of Delrin. The rod is made of stainless steel and will not corrode.

The correct rod retainers ("E" clips)are included with this rod.

It recently occurred to me that there must be kickdown rods out there that are good except for the fact that the bushings are worn out or broken out due to cracking and age. (I've seen them for sale on Ebay!) Since I provide nearly all the kickdown rods that there are for Fords cars and trucks, it seemed to me to be only appropriate to design and make my own SNAP-IN REPLACEMENT KICKDOWN ROD BUSHINGS for those who only need the bushings. This will provide an economical means for an enthusiast to renew his own rod bushings rather than having to replace the whole rod.

These bushings were designed and machined by yours truly to be  easily installed by the purchaser in  his own garage or auto shop. They are made from the same material that I make the permanently installed bushings on the new rods that I make.....Delrin. I've also provided a simple, plastic stand-off bushing to assist in installing the new bushings into the rod ends. The new bushings can be tapped into position against a hard surface with a soft-faced hammer.

Installation instructions will be sent with each kit order for your convenience. Once the bushing is snapped into place, it is IN THERE! On my trial installation in my shop, I had to destroy the bushing to get it out of the rod! Testament to the fact that it WILL STAY IN!

The hole in the rod ends must be drilled or reamed out to .375" (3/8") and the flatted side (side it's being installed from) slightly chamfered to assist the installation of the new bushing. The proper fitment and retaining of the bushing depends on this hole being THE CORRECT SIZE. The side opposite the flatted, installation side should have a square hole edge to allow the bushing to grab the rod tab firmly to prevent pullout.

There is a view of a rod end prepared for this shown above in the pictures. After installation of the bushing, the 1/4" hole must be carefully reamed out to .250" to assure it will fit on the lever pin on the carb and on the transmission lever.

The kit includes 2 snap-in bushings and the back-up, installation bushing as shown in picture above and the option of purchasing 2 "E" clips.

1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302, 428 CJ/SCJ and 70 351C Reverse Lockout Rod

This very rare part was recently reproduced from an original DOZA-7E330-S rod and every effort was made to insure accuracy of its features. The rod has a natural steel finish with a clear coat to resist rust. It is approximately 16.5" long. It fits the '70 Boss 302, '70 428 CJ/SCJ and the 70 351C Mustangs with the toploader manual transmission.

1964-1976 Ford (other) Shift Rod Trunnion Connector (cotter pin style)

These trunnion connectors are billet machined from cold rolled steel (1018) rod. They are 1.322 inches total length with the smooth pin being .544” L X .375” OD with a .093” cotter pin hole. the threaded side is 5/16-18 thread and the nut is a flanged, nylok nut for excellent retention of the adjusted position of the shift rod. There is an anti-rotation flat machined into the connector to prevent it from turning in the slot during tightening or loosening. This is a hard to find, quality piece used on many manual transmission shift linkages for lots of different cars or trucks.

They are available as a set of 2, three or individually with one. Bushings available in sets of 3 only with the trunnions.
